Darwin, Northern Territory
The Northern Territory's distinctive characteristics offer researchers and students unique experiences and opportunities. Charles Darwin University (CDU), as a research-intensive institution, offers a variety of postgraduate studies, earning international recognition with 82% rated at or above world standards in the Research Excellence Rankings Analysis. It excels in diverse fields, including tropical and desert knowledge, Indigenous knowledge, human and tropical health, social and public policy, and environmental sustainability.
Darwin is the main service centre for a wide range of industries such as mining, offshore oil and gas production, pastoralism, tourism and tropical horticulture.
Home to some of the world's largest mineral deposits, the Northern Territory provides career opportunities especially in the mining, renewable energy, and oil and gas industries. International students who remain in the Northern Territory for two years after studies can extend their visa by an additional two years. Those who choose the territory as their first study destination and complete studies here will receive preference for a permanent visa nomination.
